Founder’s Day: Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026
Here is a timeline for stress-free Texas PTA awards success!
1. Nominate your awards-selection committee members in November. (Details can be found in your standing rules.) These folks will help select your Texas PTA Honorary Life Member and/or Extended Service Award winners. Many local PTA standing rules suggest they must be selected at a board meeting.
2. Ask for nominations in December. Whether you ask for suggestions via a shoebox in the front office, accept email nominations or publish a Google Form on your socials, you need to give your membership several weeks to nominate great helpers who build up your PTA. These can be volunteers, teachers, staff, students, you name it!
3. Close nominations and have your committee select winners by mid-January. Immediately apply to Texas PTA for Honorary Life Membership/Extended Service on behalf of your winners. Additionally, there are optional certificates and oak-leaf pins you can purchase from the Texas PTA. These things take time to process and arrive. Present your awards locally, at your January/February board and/or general meeting. You want to celebrate these fantastic school volunteers in the school where their help has meant so much!
4. RSVP for the Founder’s Day Celebration by the first week of February. (Again, your standing rules usually mention who gets a ticket to the event—membership chair, awardee + guest, etc.) Founder’s Day is an event LISD Council of PTAs hosts to CELEBRATE all the award-winning volunteers from around the district. This is not so much an awards ceremony, as a night when all LISD PTAs get together to applaud our volunteers’ efforts as a group.
5. Attend the Founder’s Day celebration on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 6-8:30 at the Circle R Ranch. Wear your western finest or dressy business attire, join your local-PTA awardees and leaders, and spend the evening honoring the efforts of LISD’s many outstanding PTA members.
